cardboard testimony

A blog reader posted a link to this video (thanks), which I found powerful. I think it’s worth every second of its 8 minutes. And it also may be a great idea for your church.

Before you watch, consider these verses from 1 Corinthians 6:9-11:

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

These testimonies inspired me and a friend to do cardboard testimonies for SOHL Sunday. In a video with some facts and figures, we including members of our body who have wrestled with tough choices concerning life. We ranged it from crisis pregnancies, children with disabilities, (one had been asked to have a selective reduction in a twin pregnancy, answer No),older parents with infirmities, and a next of Kin life support issue. Then we had those folks come up and write how God has used those choices. It was perfectly quiet, no music, just people putting faces to life. How it touched our small body! God is faithful!

Randy,Thank you so much for posting this. I actually had to stop the video a couple times to keep my emotions where I could even keep watching. Very powerful to see that Christ is so much more than just our ticket to heaven, as if that in itself weren't enough. He also transforms lives here and now. Thank you Jesus.

Our church did this as part of our Christmas program. They sang an amazing song about Christ's redemption, and one by one the choir members came forward with their cardboard testimonies. It was the most moving thing I've ever seen.

This was wonderful. I cried tears of joy to hear all these stories of people's lives transformed by our wonderful friend and Saviour, Jesus. Thanks for posting it, Randy.

That was a wonderful video! Thank you for sharing that with us. I love seeing the impact God has in so many lives, especially when people surrender to him.Randy, I've had a question that I've been wanting to ask you for a little while now because I greatly value your opinion and insight. (I'm not sure where else I could ask you this question, so I hope you don't mind if I ask it here.)How would you respond to the claim that Christianity today is full of paganism?I don't know if you've come across this yourself, but I've been faced with it quite a bit in the past year or so. There's an article here about it: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=86464.I've also discussed it with people on another blog who are adamant that we are wrong by doing such things as worshiping on Sunday (when Sabbath is Saturday) and celebrating Christmas and Easter, all the while remaining ignorant of the feasts God gave to Israel. So what would you say?

Hi Lisa,Randy would love to be able to respond to your question, but at this time he’s hard at work with a book deadline, so he asked if the EPM staff could direct you to some articles by others that might answer your questions. Although these articles are addressing some of the specific examples you mentioned, I believe that the principles behind them also answer your overall question. On worshipping on Saturday vs. Sunday, “Is there a Lord’s Day?” by John Piper “Should Christians celebrate Christmas?” by John Piper Here’s another good article on Christmas and pagan origins, by Hank Hanegraaff.
