Randy Alcorn's Blog: Christ

The Annunciation and its Prolife Implications

Yesterday was the Annunciation, a Christian holy day most of us never think about. Ted Olsen, Christianity Today managing editor for news and online journalism, recently asked me my thoughts about the Annunciation and its prolife implications. Here’s Ted’s online article from Christianity Today:

baby in the wombMore Important Than Christmas?
Why pro-life Protestants don't say much about the Annunciation—or the unborn Jesus.
Ted Olsen

In two days, Christians worldwide—Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox—will celebrate Palm Sunday. Because of differences in the calendars used by eastern and western churches, such a joint celebration is rare (and will be ...

A Christmas greeting, and thoughts about Immanuel: God with us

In this 6-minute video, I share about Matthew 1:23, which tells us about Christmas. It says, “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel—which means “God with us”.

Christmas Memories and Anticipating the Eternal Christmas to Come

Christmas presentsAs a child, my favorite part of waking up on Christmas morning was the first waking realization that it was Christmas, which was the best day of the year, even in our nonchristian family. My first move was to jump up and look out my bedroom window to see if it had snowed last night. Usually not, but several memorable times it did. After the snow-check, my brother Lance and I would run to our stockings hung by mom in the living room. I would open the contents slowly, including the ever-present Whitman's Samplers, stretching it out, not wanting ...

Convergence DVDs, and the Incarnation of Christ

Randy Alcorn with Don MillerThose who follow me on Facebook might remember some pictures I posted at the end of last year, from a trip I took to Los Angeles to do some filming with Don Miller about my books Heaven and If God Is Good. That conversation has recently been released on a DVD called "Heaven: Understanding God's Plan and Our Hope," part of a DVD series called Convergence (www.allthingsconverge.com) that's designed specifically for small groups, but also great for individuals.

I love talking about deep truths, but enjoy personal interaction more than making presentations. The conversational tone of ...

God Sends Christmas Snow, Clean and Quieting

snowGod’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.

He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’
and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’ Job 37:5-6

Usually here in my part of Oregon there are more mighty downpours than great snows. But my brother Lance and I, who've lived here all our lives, were just agreeing that this is the most snow we've seen since 1968, forty years ago. We vividly remember sledding together at our home just two miles from where Nanci and I live.
Yesterday I took ...

How Would You Introduce Christ to a Room Full of People?

Steve HarveyThough Nanci and I really enjoy Brian Regan, you can’t listen to most stand-up comedians without bad words, immoral references, and disrespect for God and his people.

But here is Steve Harvey, a comedian, addressing a secular audience at the end of his routine. The question is, “How Would You Introduce Christ to a Room Full of People?" I’m not vouching for Steve Harvey in every respect (I’m unfamiliar with him), but I love this.

Jesus' Eternal Scars

Nail in handA recent commenter on my blog asked, After reading of Jesus' resurrection, and how He showed the disciples His scars on His hands as proof of who He was, my children asked if we'll have our scars in Heaven, too. What do you think?

Jesus: the True and the Better

Timothy KellerThe audio in this video is from Tim Keller, www.timothykeller.com. It is so good, so true, and so needed. Please watch as you listen, and draw near to our Savior and King. I've also included the transcript.

Joel Stein, Starbucks and Heaven

Joel SteinNow, the man in the picture is not a Christmas shepherd, but Joel Stein, a prominent columnist for The Los Angeles Times. He’s written features for Time magazine, and has impressive journalistic credentials. He says this of himself on the front page of his website: “I’m the guy who loves porn and hates America.” He’s known for his column where he said he not only opposes the war in Iraq, he opposes U.S. troops. Clearly he’s a man who says what he thinks.

Jonathan Parnell on the Preeminence of Jesus

God's WordI love this article by Jonathan Parnell. It is especially good for parents of young children, but good for the rest of us as well. Though our life demands are different, we can all relate to what he is saying.
