Randy Alcorn's Blog: Fun

California Vacation and Deadline Movie Script Read-Through

Mt. LassenHere’s a photo I took Saturday on Mount Lassen, at about 7,000 feet. The lake, the flowers, the sky—beauty popping up out of barrenness, all declaring God’s glory.

Mice, Dogs and Books (On the Lighter Side)

miceOur friend Pat Maxwell forwarded to us this picture. Don’t you just love it?

Romance, cooperation, friendship, assisting your buddy in taking the initiative... it’s all there.

A Recent Flurry of Fun Experiences

Aslan and LucyNanci and I have had a lot of miscellaneous activities in the last few weeks. In the previous blog I mentioned Stephanie's wedding. Here are some others.

We saw and loved Prince Caspian, the second of the Chronicles of Narnia movies.

Evel Knievel, Childhood Memories and Good News

A Christianity Today article by Troy Anderson, "A New Day for Apologetics," talked about the resurgence of Christian apologetics.

But what caught my eye was a part of the story that talked about Evel Knievel, the daredevil whose bizarre accomplishments first came to my attention as a grade school student, in The Weekly Reader.

Family snow photos, and some Funny Pics on file

snowmanTwo of our grandsons are in southern California visiting their other grandparents. They and their parents made it out of town before the snow and ice.

Meanwhile we've spent a few days with our other grandsons, Jake and Tyler Stump, who live just up the road from us. We were on the sled, threw snowballs and built a snowman in our side yard. You can't often do that in our part of Oregon, and we've had a blast.snowman

A Breath of Fresh Air, God’s Common Grace

giftIf you haven’t seen this video, it’ll make your day. I just watched it again as I took a brief break from final revisions on my book.

Think of it as God’s common grace at work in this world. In the midst of mundane pressures and cares, including yours and mine and those of commuters in Antwerp, Belgium, comes sheer delight. A gift. And all gifts are ultimately from Him, the Creator behind all that is creative, the Delight behind the delightful, the Good behind all goodness.

Let it remind you of God’s gifts, large and ...

An Unlikely Animal Pair

lion and lambPeople often ask me whether animals will be in Heaven. Their second question is whether they’ll ever see their pets again. To some people, these are merely sentimental questions. To others, they are very important. Children especially want to know the answers. What do we tell them when they ask?

Scripture says a great deal about animals, portraying them as Earth’s second most important inhabitants. God entrusted animals to us, and our relationships with animals are a significant part of our lives.

Isaiah 11:6-9 speaks of a coming glorious era on Earth when “the leopard will lie ...

A Very Moving Story

elephantIn light of my blog post some time ago with the Christian the lion video, our friend Diane Meyer sent us the following. It’s a somewhat similar story. But please, if you haven’t watched the lion video, do that first. Without it, you will not appreciate why Diane sent this one:

In 1986, Mikele Mebembe was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University. On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air.

The elephant seemed distressed, so Mikele approached it very carefully. He got ...

Babies on Skates

Okay, there is no reason for me to post this except that I want to. And I believe that God made us to laugh.

By the way, Christianaudio.com is offering Crazy Love by Francis Chan as their free audiobook download this month. I am listening to this now and really enjoying it. This is a product well worth the usual price, but it’s an amazing value at no cost!

The Game Plan for Life, Joe Gibbs, and the World of NASCAR

Game Plan for LifeIn May, Nanci and I spent three days with Joe Gibbs in Charlotte, North Carolina related to a book in which he asked me to write a chapter about Heaven (Game Plan for Life: A Champion's Guide to a Successful Life, coming out tomorrow, July 21). I did some filming and speaking in chapel at Joe Gibbs Racing (450 employees, 240,000 square feet of building).

Joe warned us before coming with him to the 2009 All Star Race (in a helicopter of all things, not how we normally travel), “NASCAR is a different planet.” Boy, was he right ...
