World Evangelism Statistics, and Missions Giving

worldI'm not a big statistics guy, but sometimes statistics can be revealing.

The following statistics are from the book 2020 Vision, by Bill and Amy Stearns.

Aggie Hurst: A Story of Eternal Perspective

While we were unable to find any real pictures of Aggie or her family, I hope this story of God's faithfulness through the sacrifice of missionary couple David and Svea Flood will inspire you.

ZambiaI've been thinking of it in context of a big book I'm writing on the problem of evil and suffering. How many times has God had a purpose in events that seemed senseless at the time they happened? How many things that seem pointless now will later be seen to have a divine point?

Consider Joseph and his brothers who horribly betrayed him ...

Crisis in Congo: An appeal from World Relief and Lynne Hybels

CongoI received an e-mail from World Relief, one of the finest Christian relief and development agencies, about the unfolding crisis in Congo:

The situation in the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is critical. Thousands were fleeing as rebel forces advanced on the city of Goma in eastern DRC. Rebel soldiers were on the edge of the city as a fragile ceasefire held.

The crisis is rapidly unfolding into a humanitarian disaster on a huge scale. Reports of random killings, rape and other atrocities are widespread.

Right now, the situation in Goma is incredibly tense, with many Congolese upset at ...

An atheist explains Africa's need for God

Why ProLife? Before getting to the main theme of this blog, let me mention a few things.

Eternal Perspective Ministries offers quantities (50 books/case) of my book Why Prolife? to churches for $1.00 per copy ($7.99 retail price). Even though Sanctity of Human Life Sunday was January 18, we are continuing to offer that discounted price for those churches and organizations who would still like to share the truth about the unborn (Of course, you can do this any week of the year you choose to.) Visit the EPM store to learn more.

Last Thursday, January 22, was the ...

The JESUS Film: "Show it Again"

One of my favorite ministries is the JESUS film project, which I have personally witnessed at work in powerful ways in China, Cambodia and Mexico. (More about that later in this blog.)

Every word in the film is from the gospel of Luke, and it includes at the end an invitation to receive Christ. In countries with low literacy, people can't read the Bible even if it's been translated into their language; but all of them can understand the JESUS Film, which is Scripture on a screen, God made visible. I read an amazing story from the JESUS ...

Sharing the Gospel in Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square

Ron and KarenThirty years ago, Ron Rohman began preaching in front of the old Pioneer Courthouse at SW Fifth and Morrison streets in downtown Portland, Oregon. Now that their children are grown, his wife Karen (pictured here with Ron) has joined him in his ministry, which they call intercessory evangelism. Today they witness together in Pioneer Courthouse Square, the "Living Room" of Portland.

When I first met Ron twenty-one years ago I wasn't sure what to think of him. Within a year or two, I became sure. I love this brother and his wife, and I thank God for the faithful ...

Children in Crisis Worldwide

Ugandan girlEarlier this year, my friend Doug Nichols, founder and director of ACTION International Ministries, a great missions organization, sent these humbling statistics about needy children worldwide. As you and I pray and consider what to do with our lives and resources, I hope God will use these facts to touch our hearts. (By the way, this Sunday, November 8, is Orphan Sunday, an opportunity to rouse your church, community and friends to God’s call to care for the orphan. Learn more at www.orphansunday.org)

HIV/AIDS and Disease

Over 38 million people live with HIV/AIDS worldwide, with ...

Is God calling you to missions in 2010?

missions mapI have the highest regard for the cause of world missions, and the greatest respect for Action International, one of many fine missions groups. While Doug Nichols is making this request, these ten qualities express what many other missions are looking for, too. Ask yourself if you or someone you know fits this profile, and ask God whether He wants you to step out in faith and follow Him to bring Christ to people in another part of the world. And note also how nearly all of the ten qualities are exactly what we should each develop, whether we serve God overseas or right where we are now.

God at Work Worldwide

GlobeA few months ago, Doug Nichols, Founder & International Director Emeritus of ACTION International, sent out these statistics on the growth of the church in many places. It's clear that the opportunities for using our financial resources to spread the gospel and strengthen the church all over the world are stronger than they’ve ever been

Horrors in Sudan: an Urgent Plea for Prayer from Make Way Partners

OrphanHere at EPM, one of the ministries we have the privilege of supporting is Make Way Partners. Through the hope of the gospel, MWP goes to the most vulnerable and least protected to end human trafficking and sexual slavery.
