Randy Alcorn's Blog: abortion

Why the Revelations of Dr. Gosnell’s Trial Don’t Shock Me, and the Holocaust in Our Midst

Unborn childI’m a little taken aback that so many Christians are utterly shocked only because of the fact that this man killed some babies after they were born instead of a minute, week, month or three months earlier. As if that makes the slightest difference to the babies or to God.

The Crucial Question Related to the Affordable Care Act: Does Human Life Begin at Conception or Implantation?

The Affordable Care Act, and when human life beginsThere has been a great deal of confusion about what exactly the Affordable Care Act mandates in regards to abortion and contraceptives. Here’s an attempt to clear the waters, though I’m certain some commenters will disagree, since no matter what you say about this, you can always find websites that confidently proclaim something different! :)

Uncoolness, Tolerance, and Christ’s Bride the Church

ChurchI came to Christ at an uncool church (not the one in the photo, but built in the same era). Coming from the family of a tavern owner, and never having been part of a church, it was strange to hear the way people spoke, how they dressed (the men wore suits and ties) and what they sang, including occasional songs in Swedish.

Reflections in Front of an Abortion Clinic

Not an un-motherThere is a popular idea that is tossed around as absolute truth: to be pro-women is to be pro-abortion. A woman’s right to abortion is paramount over a baby’s right to life.

Every Life Is Precious, No Matter How He or She Was Conceived

ProLife Answers to ProChoice ArgumentsWhat if you found that your spouse or adopted child was fathered by a rapist? Would it change your view of their worth? Would you love them any less? If not, why should we view the innocent unborn child any differently?

Why Pro-Life?: Addressing the Defining Issue of Our Age

Why Pro-Life?My book Why Pro-Life? was first published in 2004. With 300,000 English copies in print, and translations in 18 other languages, I have been amazed at its far-reaching impact. But in the eight years since the book was first written, technology has changed, statistics have become dated, and there are new resources, stories, and discussions. It was time for a thorough update and revision.

How Great Evil Confirms the Biblical Teaching about Demons

PrayI can mourn with and pray for the families in Connecticut who lost their children (and in a few cases their spouses) in the school shooting. I certainly cannot offer any definitive explanation. I am dedicating this week’s three blogs to perspectives that may be helpful to some.

A Response to Tina Fey’s Rebuke of Prolife Men

CassiCassi is a dear sister in Christ who heads up the disability ministry at our church. Her response to comedian Tina Fey’s much publicized rebuke of prolife men is well worth reading.

Election 2012 Part 5: Is it Wrong to Vote for the Lesser of Evils? Shouldn’t We Instead Vote for a Third Party Candidate?

CandidatesI’ve received many comments from those who believe that we should vote for a third party candidate. Why? Because voting between President Obama and Governor Romney involves choosing between the lesser of two evils, which means choosing evil, something no Christian should do.

Election 2012 Part 4: Do the Candidates Have Different Positions on Abortion and Does it Matter?

Baby in womb at five monthsNow I come to the subject of abortion. And while it is not the only issue, it’s vitally important.  I recently addressed the question, “Shouldn’t we care about other social injustices besides abortion?” My answer was an emphatic yes, which is why our ministry gives financial resources, time and attention to fighting these other injustices. But when I bring it up, many Christians refuse to stay on track with the issue of abortion.
