Randy Alcorn's Blog: ask randy

What would you say to someone who doesn’t believe Jesus is God?

FleshSomeone can say they disagree with John 1:1 or that interpretation, but they are disagreeing with what the Bible clearly says. We know this because Jesus’ deity is evident not only in this verse, but also repeatedly in the gospel of John.

Should we literally gouge out an eye that causes us to sin?

deal radicallyThe eye represents what we see. The hand represents what we do. What I think Jesus is saying here in Matt. 5:27-32 is, “Deal radically with what you expose your eyes to. Deal radically with what you handle and do, the places you go, and what you touch.”

How does one gain the courage to make personal sacrifices for God?

CourageI think we don’t have enough courage in our lives—I know I don’t. But in my experience, when I have followed the Lord step by step, it doesn’t hit me all at once. Rather, it comes in increments

What do you think about "Christianese"?

What do you think of "Christianese"?Several weeks ago we asked blog readers to submit questions for me to answer. I’ll be posting the video answers to the questions as blogs over the course of the next few weeks. One of the questions asked was: What do you think about "Christianese"?

If you could ask Randy a question…

Looking for your questionsRandy will be doing another filming soon, and we’re asking his blog readers what questions they would like him to address in a video blog.

Why doesn’t the church address the issue of modesty?

Here’s another great question I was asked on my blog:

ModestyMy husband and I are glad that the church is finally talking about the problem of pornography   and purity in the Body of Christ, and helping men address this issue. But why do we never hear about purity for women in the way they dress? I’m talking about women who profess to be Christ-followers. They become a stumbling block to their brothers when they dress seductively or dress to be sexy as the world has deemed fashionable. Please address the issue of modestly.

How should Christians respond to UFOs and other unexplainable phenomena?

UFO questionAnother question I was asked by a reader is, How should Christians respond to theories of UFOs and other unexplainable phenomena? People around the world have seen and experienced something. But what is the something? How can a Christian respond to these reports when conversing with others, particularly those who are not Christians?

Ask Randy: Looking for Your Questions

microphoneThose of you who enjoy the resources from Desiring God (a site we highly recommend) are probably familiar with “Ask Pastor John”, where John Piper answers questions on video. That’s our inspiration for this feature: we’re inviting those of you who read Randy’s blog to submit your question for him in a comment on this post. We’ll choose three of those questions
