“Monumental” Movie Tells an Important Story

MonumentalWhile visiting friends in Texas last week, Nanci and I saw Kirk Cameron’s documentary Monumental. We found it interesting, inspiring, and very well done. It’s very engaging, and tells an important story.

Saying Goodbye to Moses

with MosesI shared briefly on Facebook what happened a couple of days ago, but wanted to blog about it now and add quite a few other thoughts and links.

Pat Robertson versus Robertson McQuilkin on Alzheimer’s and Marriage

Pat Robinson

Pat Robertson has said something so stunning, so at odds with the Word of God and the heart of our Savior, that when I heard he had said it I thought he had been misunderstood or misrepresented.

Why, O God?: Suffering and Disability in the Bible and the Church

Why, O God?I have never said yes to endorsing a book, much less to writing its foreword, unless I believed in it. I anticipated Why, O God?: Suffering and Disability in the Bible and the Church, edited by Larry Waters and Roy Zuck, would be good, but I am pleased to find it exceptional.

"Heaven Is for Real," "90 Minutes in Heaven," and other books about visits to Heaven or Hell

Heaven Is For RealIn the past few months, I have been repeatedly asked about the phenomenally popular book Heaven is For Real. This book was again number 1 on the May 8 New York Times bestseller’s list. It has already sold something like four million copies, and it’s not slowing down.

Truthfully, I didn’t want to say anything about this book. But after being asked about it again and again on Facebook and in emails and at a conference, I’ve decided I need to say something.

Trusting in the Sovereignty and Love of God

Joni Eareckson TadaI spoke this last weekend about Romans 8:28-29 at my home church, Good Shepherd Community Church here in Oregon. (Listen to the message.) I used as an example our precious friend Joni Eareckson Tada.

Nourishment for the Soul

Ken and Joni TadaJoni Eareckson Tada announced this week that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. (Read her blog post, written in her typically Christ-centered way.)

Over the years Joni has become a dear friend to Nanci and me, and we also deeply appreciate her husband Ken. I interviewed Joni and quote from her often in If God is Good, and she is one of the people I dedicated the book to. (She is the founder and CEO of Joni and Friends, a wonderful ministry to the disabled. Check them out at www.joniandfriends.org. JAF is a ministry worthy of support, an investment in eternity.)

Desiring God National Conference Report

John PiperNanci and I had a great time in Minneapolis this weekend. As the 3,500 who attended will attest, Desiring God Ministries knows how to put on a conference! Thanks especially to Scott Anderson who is the Events Director; he also did a great job last spring when we had the Desiring God Regional conference at our home church in—yes, no kidding—Boring, Oregon.
