Randy Alcorn's Blog: mike huckabee

March for Life, Politics, Comments, and Huckabees at Norris Ranch

March for LifeI'm interrupting my new series of blogs on longing. Why? Partly because today, January 22, is the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the most tragic judicial decision in American history. It’s also the annual March for Life, which I’ve participated in, and where my heart has been today.

Here is coverage of the event from today’s Washington Post online. Note that the Post entitles the article, “A Youthful Throng Marches Against Abortion,” reporting a large percentage of the participants were teenagers. I find that very encouraging.

Smaller events happened today throughout the country. Just a ...

Mike Huckabee, Iowa Caucus and boasting in God Alone

Iowa Caucus I've assembled some holiday family pics and was about to post them, but will wait a few days in light of current events.

I haven't said anything about politics since the three November blogs about the prolife issue and the candidates. But last night's Iowa caucus is worth mentioning.

Last night we were with a group of folks here in Oregon, at Heidi's restaurant in Gresham, watching the election coverage. The gathering was hosted by nineteen year old brothers Alex and Brett Harris, who run therebelution.com website, which is in my opinion the best place ...

Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Final Thoughts on his Life and Death

Dietrich BonhoefferBefore we get to Bonhoeffer, I want to make some observations. If you want to shorten your read and move to the Bonhoeffer part, skip these first nine paragraphs.

Most of the feedback on my blogs has been positive, but I always welcome constructive criticism and disagreement. I really like to learn from input, and it’s not unusual for me to adjust my thinking as a result. My many years of being a writer (not to mention addressing the always-edgy prolife subject) have thickened my skin, and it’s rare that I feel defensive.

Since writing the political blogs ...

Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee and my Grandchildren

Ron PaulThis is my fourth and final blog on presidential candidates. If events arise that justify it, I will address political matters in the future. But for now, this is it. Next week I’ll return to normal blogging, whatever that may bring. (Maybe something about Dietrich Bonhoeffer or C. S. Lewis, who I’ve been rereading lately.)

I said I’d comment on Ron Paul, the Texas congressman with libertarian ideals who is running for the Republican nomination. Dr. Paul has a very large financial base, and the most loyal and outspoken constituency on the Internet. He opposes abortion, and ...

IRS regulations and…why Mike Huckabee above the other Candidates?

Mike HuckabeeThere was discussion in the comments on my previous blog about whether I am violating IRS regulations by supporting Mike Huckabee.

Since there is misunderstanding on this, let me clarify. (Not just for me, but for countless Christian leaders and pastors in the same position.) I have carefully examined IRS regulations in the past, and this week reviewed them again. A nonprofit 501c3, such as Eternal Perspective Ministries, cannot maintain its tax-exempt status if it, as an organization, endorses a political candidate. A tax-exempt ministry can take a position on moral issues and ballot measures, but not candidates.

However, a ...

Sacrificing Children on a Republican Altar?

Rudy Giuliani and Pat RobertsonWhen I wrote my blog last week in support of Mike Huckabee, I didn’t know what I was getting into. My intention was to write two blogs, then go back to normal blog life, which for me doesn’t involve politics.

Why I Support Mike Huckabee for President

Mike HuckabeeFirst, some background, so you know where I’m coming from—and not. In fact, most of this blog will be background, and the following blog will deal more with Mike Huckabee and his opposing candidates.

I have never been into politics, though as a young pastor I saw political awareness and involvement as necessary. Then twenty years ago I had a terrible experience with a well-known politician in our church, who was widely considered by the Christian community to be a David standing against the Goliath of the secular media. (He used that terminology himself.) Unfortunately, he was not ...
