The problem of human slavery, with at least 30 million known victims in the world today, is a staggering one. There are many organizations and people around the world who are dedicated to fighting this injustice, and this is good. However, you may not be aware of the ways that you personally can help contribute to this fight.
I think people are creating an artificial distinction because they feel that whenever you talk about one social evil and injustice, you are obligated to list every other one. I don’t agree with that. And I don’t appreciate the fact that this is seldom done with other injustices, but is routinely done with abortion.
I have the greatest appreciation for George Verwer, founder of Operation Mobilization (OM) and an advocate for worldwide missions. Some years ago George contacted me, saying God had laid on his heart the plight of unborn children. I was grateful to hear this, but wasn’t sure whether this vision would last given the fact that many people, Christians included, object to hearing about it. Well, George is a man who listens to God rather than voices that don’t tolerate speakers who address abortion.
I know Zach Hunter. I met him and had dinner with him and his mom after a showing of the movie Amazing Grace, that great movie on the life of the Christian parliamentarian William Wilberforce and his success in passing the laws to ban slavery in England.
