Earlier this year, I spent a wonderful and exhausting four days at Biola University. I was certainly familiar with Biola by reputation, but my experience there exceeded expectations. If you’re not familiar with Os Guinness, he is an author and social critic who lives in the Washington DC area. He’s written or edited more than 25 books and is a frequent speaker and seminar leader at political and business conferences in both the United States and Europe. When Os and I were both speaking at the C. S. Lewis conference in Oxford in July, Nanci and I had a delightful dinner with him and his wife Jenny.
In light of the Fourth of July celebration of the founding of our country, I wanted to again bring attention to The Manhattan Declaration and encourage you to check out their website, manhattandeclaration.org. As I wrote in the blog I posted last year about the Declaration, I do not participate in many things like this, but both the content and the tone of this statement is something I wish to affirm. It expresses truth, but I believe it does so with grace. I especially appreciate the section of the Declaration that affirms the sanctity of human life, at any age.
