All Belief and No Action: Christian College Students and Money

All Belief and No Action

By GlanCarlo Canaparo, Westmont Horizon newspaper, from Westmont College

Christian students often encounter areas of struggle between their beliefs and their actions. Westmont students in particular often come across such a struggle on the topic of wealth and its use.

Last semester, religious studies professor Dr. Helen Rhee's class Wealth and Poverty in Christian History created a survey for Westmont students regarding wealth, poverty and the ways in which students act on these issues. Recently the Horizon followed suit with its own survey on the subject.

Dr. Rhee said that the survey revealed a ...

The Church in China: “Growing by Leaps and Bounds”

Recently Desiring God posted an interesting blog on China's changing church, about how the church in China is growing by leaps and bounds. Some Chinese government officials have estimated the church in China to be as large as 130 million people. The blog goes on to talk about "the urban house church," a new movement of churches that is neither part of the underground church nor part of the government-run church.

Those who have read my book Safely Home often ask me about the persecution of Christians in China. Frequently they ask something like, I have a friend who ...

Prolife Pastor Chooses Jail over Plea Bargain

I was touched by this remarkable story, which relates to the long-standing problem of how abortion is devastating the black community. Here is a pastor who is standing up for unborn black children. Start reading the article here, and if you wish to complete it, follow the link to the full article in World Magazine.)

Orphanages Can Be Used Greatly by God

My friend Doug Nichols, founder and international director emeritus of ACTION International Ministries, wrote this article about the importance of orphanages, and why we can't just leave street children on the street. He writes:

It is very discouraging to read articles which are basically negative in regards to caring for orphans and street children in orphanages. Of course, a loving home is better than an orphanage, but does that mean we should give up on orphanages altogether? We do realize that there are some unacceptable orphanages in the world, but creating more loving, God-centered orphanages could bring glory to ...

Unfashionable: Making a Difference in the World by Being Different by Tullian Tchividjian

I'd like to share some thoughts about a book I recently read called Unfashionable: Making a Difference in the World by Being Different by Tullian Tchividjian. (Readers might recall that I did a panel discussion with Tullian, and Alex and Brett Harris, at the Christian Book Expo in March.)

"Christianity is radically uncool," says south Florida Pastor Tullian Tchividjian. "Indeed, if what's fasionable in society is what interests you, then true Christianity won't. It's that simple."

Unfashionable was inspired by Tullian's own experience is his early twenties as he awakened one Sunday morning with an ...

God at work through Russian translations of books

One thing I really enjoy as an author is getting to see my books translated into languages around the world and hear how the Lord is using them. It's a great joy to open the boxes when these translated books arrive at my door. Usually I can’t understand a word (English is my first and second language), but it’s so fun to know that they’re being read by people in Indonesia, China, Korea, Kenya, Brazil, the Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, Vietnam, Norway, Russia, Romania, Poland and… more. (You can check out the list of all the ...

Resources for Pastors and Book Study Leaders

Many of you who read this blog may be familiar with Randy's books, but might not know about all the free resources available on the EPM website, which are especially useful for pastors and those leading studies on one of Randy's books. We recently added to the site some downloadable PDFs of bulletin inserts and fliers (pictured throughout this post) which can be used to advertise a study or sermon series for one of the books.

The book study resources page for Heaven includes links to related articles, media, and promotional materials for the book. Pastors can ...

A Real Hope of Heaven

Stephanie AndersonThe first time I picked up a book by Randy Alcorn was when I was a sophomore in a theology class at Corban College and we were reading Heaven. As we studied through the book, my view of eternity was radically challenged and altered—for the better. Little did I know that a year and half later I would be working for Randy’s ministry. Nor did I know at that time just how precious those truths about Heaven would turn out to be.

For the past two years, I’ve been the promotions director for Eternal Perspective Ministries.  I ...
