July
2007
Welcome
to the July issue of the EPM E-News Update.
This
month we'll be telling you a little bit about Randy's
Theology of Money class he taught last month, and we'll let
you listen in on the classroom.
We
hope you're enjoying these summer days with family and friends (here
in Sandy, Oregon, we actually hit 100 degrees!)

Randy
Teaches Theology of Money Class
"Why
is money so important to God?" Randy
began the 2-day course by asking his students this question
and by challenging them with the words of Richard Halverson:
Jesus
Christ said more about money than about any other single
thing because, when it comes to a man's real nature, money
is of first importance. Money is an exact index to a man's
true character. All through Scripture there is an intimate
correlation between the development of a man's character
and how he handles his money.
Randy taught
the course at the Portland campus of Western Seminary over
the weekend of June 8 and 9, and students from around the
Portland area (and from as far away as New Jersey, as well
as a few via the internet) joined him to study what Scripture
says about honoring God with our money and possessions.
Topics covered included the challenge of money and possessions,
materialism, the nature of stewardship, helping the poor,
choosing a lifestyle, and inheritances.
Students
read Randy's book Money, Possessions and Eternity
for the course, and also Money:
The Currency of Christian Hedonism,
a chapter from John Piper’s book Desiring
God (available online at the Desiring God website, www.desiringgod.org)
Suggested reading included Rich
in Every Way: Everything God Says About Money and Possessions
by
Gene Getz and Stott
on Stewardship: Ten Principles of Christian Giving by
John R.W. Stott, as well as Randy’s book The
Treasure Principle.

Prayer
Requests
Thanks
to all who prayed for our Wednesday, June 27th brainstorming
meeting. We were able to clarify some core values and the
direction of Randy's heart and ministry, and we are working
towards implementing some changes in order to more accurately
reflect those. Thanks especially to friends of EPM, Tony and
Bryce, who came all the way from Michigan to be a part of
this meeting.
In other news, the EPM office will be moving within the next few
weeks (though not far!) We have the opportunity to move
to a slightly larger office just across the hall in our current
building, which will provide more needed space for
our staff. Please pray that our moving experience will go
smoothly (especially with our computers)!

Randy's
Writings Around the World
Liberia,
Africa: EPM had the opportunity to donate several
of Randy's books to Equipping Pastors International, Inc.(www.equippingpastors.com). Randy's
books (including The Purity Principle, The Treasure Principle,
and The Grace and Truth Paradox ) were among
several given to six pastors in Liberia, who have just begun
a new Presbyterian denomination. The books will be foundational
in helping these pastors establish this denomination in their
war-torn country.
Have a story about Randy's books overseas or at home? Please email
us and share your stories and
pictures.
Randy's
books are now available in more than 20 languages, making
65 foreign editions.
Randy writes, "One
of my great joys is opening the boxes when these translated
books arrive at my door. Usually I can’t understand
a word (English is my first and second language), but it’s
so fun to know that they’re being read by people in
Indonesia, China, Korea, Kenya, Brazil, the Netherlands, Germany,
South Africa, Vietnam, Norway, Russia, Romania, Poland and…more."

Tell
Me About Heaven Now Available

Randy’s
new children’s book, Tell
Me About Heaven is now available!
Tell Me About Heaven
features beautiful paintings by gifted artist Ron DiCianni. It
will
help kids better understand Biblical truths about Heaven as
they read about ten-year-old Jake, who struggles to understand
his grandma’s death. But as he spends two weeks at his
grandfather’s home, he is able to receive answers to
his questions about Heaven.
