Readers’ Responses to Eternal Perspectives

Eternal PerspectivesI love this book! I keep putting it down after two to three chapters and then find myself picking it right back up again. There are so many quotes... and to think of all the people from way back who thought so much about Heaven. It’s a great book and I’m just getting started!  -F.B., age 90

Why doesn’t Genesis 1:1 state that the world was created ex nihilo?

I’m sure this passage in Genesis could have been further clarified, but perhaps it doesn’t need to be. God must have created out of nothing because there was nothing before he created (otherwise he would not be God).

When were the disciples called?

Question from a reader:

I read the other day about the disciples being possibly called at different times throughout Jesus' ministry to follow him, but they did not begin to follow him full-time until the last year and a half. I know some had families and jobs. Can you elaborate on the calling of the twelve? Was it a one time, drop everything and follow me call? Or did they hear about Jesus, come to know Jesus, followed off/on until later in his ministry.

Endorsements and Book Reviews of The Resolution

The Resolution For Men is a MUST read for any man who truly wants to be more Godly and live out his life Resolutionwith conviction and courage before God, his family and his fellow man. What is neat about the book is that it provides its reader essential and practical helps so that he can achieve the goal of becoming a man for God in such a time as this. The helps include a copy of the actual resolution, a “Courageous Challenge” and a “Memory Verse.” And there are numerous helpful Scripture passages included throughout the book to convict, to ...

Was Elijah taken to Heaven in a chariot of fire or in a whirlwind?

Question from a reader:

On page 359 of your Heaven book, you mention speaking with the saints of old: “I would like to ask Elijah about being taken away in the chariot.” Elijah and Elisha were separated by a chariot of fire, but both NIV and KJV say in II Kings 2:11 that Elijah “went up to Heaven in a whirlwind.”

Will Heaven be an eternal naptime or will we have responsibilities?

Question from a reader:

Will heaven be an eternal naptime or vacation, or will we have activities and responsibilities?

Answer:

The idea of endlessly floating on clouds doing nothing but strumming a harp is nowhere in Scripture.

Is religion bad?

Question from a reader:

I am an atheist and I accept all regardless of background, religion, culture, sexuality, etc. If you truly love someone then these things should not matter. I have been free from religion for 18 years now. I only hope more people see the truth and get out of the cult of religion so that they are able to live their lives how they want.

Is God both man and woman combined?

Question from a reader:

Is God both man and woman combined? Is he my heavenly father and mother? Are women made in God’s image? Are man and woman joined in marriage a more complete or closer image of God?

Answer from Julia Stager (EPM staff) and Randy Alcorn:

God is triune. He is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Father and Son are both explicitly masculine terms. The Holy Spirit could be viewed as gender neutral, through his comforting and nurturing roles suggest attributes we usually associate with females.

That two of the three members of the trinity are depicted ...

Where is the judgment of faith found in the Bible?

Question from a reader:

I understand that the Lord allows His people to either enter the Intermediate Heaven or, if they have not come to the Lord in faith, to be sent to the Intermediate Hell…but I am wondering what passage of Scripture supports this statement.
