What Difference Does It Make? Are you living for the dot or the line?

The most striking thing that’s happened,” she said, “is that I find myself totally uninterested in all the conversations about material things.

What do I say to a young couple who are fairly new at our church and are living together?

When people who are living together visit our churches or small groups or homes, it is not our first job to try to correct their behavior, but instead to demonstrate the grace and truth of Jesus Christ.

What do you think about having a homosexual be part of a church leadership team?

Question from a reader:

What do you think about having a homosexual be part of a church leadership team?

What do you think Jesus would say about capitalism? (video)

In this three-minute video, Randy talks about how no economic system will work ideally when there is sin, but some will work better than others and provide better motivation for people.

What do you think of George Barna’s book Revolution?

When it comes to church involvement, many in previous generations struggled with legalism. Today many struggle with the opposite–license. Legalists need to learn Christian liberty. Those struggling with license–freedom abused–need to learn not liberty per se, but spiritual discipline.

So how does this “revolution” foster the spiritual discipline of submitting to authority and following leadership we don’t always agree with? Instead, does it substitute biblical leadership with self-leadership, which means doing whatever you want, i.e. not having to submit to someone else because “I know better”?

What Does a Cross-Bearer Look Like?

God will choose who reigns as kings, and I’m confident some great surprises are in store for us. Christ gives us clues in Scripture as to the type of person he will choose: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.…Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.…Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3, 5,10). Also, “‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time” (1 Peter 5:5-6).

What does it mean that we are created in God’s image?

So in Genesis 1, the idea is clearly that man somehow represents something of or about God, including His presence in the world and His authority. Since we know from other passages that it is not that God has arms, hands, or other bodily parts, the resemblance must be less concrete and more “essential.” None of the other creations of God (whether animal or angel) are in God’s image. We resemble His attributes as much as the material can emulate the perfect Immaterial.

What does the Bible have to say about working in an atmosphere of confrontations?

Motivation to work is a test of who people are serving. If they view it as only serving earthly owners and authority figures, their motivation will be lost, and their thoughts transferred only to themselves and their futures, and potential frustration and bitterness can kick in. Then their work will suffer greatly. But if you view it correctly, you see that God has been the One they’ve been, or should have been, working for all along and He has not transferred ownership of the company—He’s still in charge of the universe. And He still has a perfect plan for each of us.

What Does Your Clothing Communicate?

I find, today, that there are a lot of women who really do have a heart for the Lord. They may be faithfully involved in a local church. And they may be actively involved in gospel ministry. And they may lift up their hands in joyful acclamation to the Lord when singing songs of praise. And yet, many of these very same women may also be totally oblivious of the message that they are sending with their body and with their clothing.

Their clothing is communicating something far different than what’s in their hearts.
