Resources: Suffering and Evil

Can we trust books that talk about demons and state exact words they actually say?

Question from a reader:

I’ve read books that talk a lot about demons, and what they say. Can we trust what they say?

Answer from Randy Alcorn:

I have read books by Christians who offer insights on demons that go way beyond Scripture. Usually this is based on personal experiences. Some have gotten a good deal of “information” from being present at exorcisms.

One of the things that is most remarkable—and I believe that years ago I read statements from Neil Anderson to this effect—is when a Christian writer argues that something is true of demons or ...

A Christian Response to Terrorism

This is the most difficult day of my life. That apparent terrorist attacks could bring such death and destruction to unsuspecting people is absolutely unthinkable. Yet the numbers of the dead and wounded from these attacks will be extraordinary.

Circumstances Or Perspective?

To overcome stress you must either change your circumstances or your perceptions. You can change some circumstances, of course, but many you cannot.

Counseling With Suffering People

Counseling With Suffering People

The Journal of Biblical Counseling • Winter 2003

I begin with five assumptions. Without them, what I have to say about counseling and suffering will not stand.

1. Counseling is conversational exultation in the manifold mercies of God.

2. Mutual counseling is a normative event in the conversations and relationships of the body of Christ.

3. The aim of true counseling is the glory of God through Jesus Christ.

4. God is most glorified in our lives when we are most satisfied in Him.

5. Suffering is a universal human experience, designed by God for His glory ...

Crisis & Tragedy

Some crises turn out well. The loved one recovers from the accident, the son comes to Christ, the daughter comes home. We may clearly see God’s hand in allowing the whole ordeal to happen. Other times the crisis ends in apparent tragedy.

Deliverance Ministry, addressing issues such as demonic deliverance

Deliverance Ministry:
A Consensus Statement from Pentecostal, Charismatic and Historic Evangelicals

The following paragraphs represent a sixth draft of a statement of principles developed by a diverse group of pastors and professors representing various evangelical traditions. I am the primary author of this document, but it has been developed with extensive interaction in the group. The group has taken the name Rogue Fellowship. Under the initiation of Doug Shearer, senior pastor of New Hope Christian Fellowship of Sacramento, CA, we are unofficially representing a broad section of evangelical traditions to address various practices and beliefs in the churches. Our common burden is to address such contemporary church issues as demonic deliverance, political involvement, inner healing, modern day prophecy, worship styles, etc. One goal is to make statements where we all agree on both rights and wrongs in these areas. We intend to address issues and practices rather than specific groups. We are amazed to find how much agreement we can get on issues such as binding demons, an area where there are vast differences within the group.
