How did you write the Courageous novel in 4 months?

Honestly, it was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. I had lots of 12 to 16 hour days, and although I knew it would only be for a season, it took its toll.

Will you write a book on the topic of Hell someday?

Question from a reader:

People trust what you have to say about heaven. Your 2004 book by that title was a best seller. Can we expect a book from you on the topic of hell some day?

Answer from Randy Alcorn:

I have chapters on Hell in my books Heaven and If God Is Good. And I have one hell scene in most of my novels, each a bit different than the others. I have no plans to write a whole book on Hell. But I recently wrote the foreword to Mark Galli’s excellent book, God Wins, and endorsed ...

Car chases, shootouts, gang activity, corrupt cops, clear-cut villains and heroes, and the eternal confrontation between good and evil -- they're all present in Courageous the movie, which goes to theaters next week. The same elements and more also fill the pages of Courageous the novel.

What prompted you to write your book We Shall See God?

Question from a reader:

Have some things happened in your own circle of friends and family in the past few years that prompted you to write We Shall See God, an upbeat book on the topic of heaven?

Can you share about the process of writing the novel Courageous?

Last year I said yes to writing a novel based on the screenplay of the new movie Courageous(www.courageousthemovie.com), which is being released in theaters on September 30. The movie was done by the Kendrick brothers, Stephen and Alex, who produced Facing the Giants and Fireproof. As Fireproofcentered on fire fighters and marriage, Courageous centers on police officers and fatherhood and, not surprisingly, COURAGE for men in their homes and personal lives.

Randy, how do you decide what books to write next? (audio)

In this audio clip, Randy Alcorn answers the question, "How do you decide what books to write next?"

Even though you are writing for a Christian audience, how do you craft your message in an attempt to reach non-Christians?

When I wrote Deception, the spiritual themes are interwoven into the central plot, the murder mystery. Ollie’s recognition that everything is not as it appears applies not only to the murder, but to the larger issues of his life.

What first sparked your interest in writing murder mysteries?

I like reading them—particularly the Nero Wolfe books by Rex Stout. I love Sherlock Holmes. In fact, every chapter of Deception starts with a great quote from a Holmes story. It was fun matching those with the contents of particular chapters. Many people enjoy murder mysteries, so there’s potential for a wide audience.
