What happened on the Cross?

Question from a reader:

I hear about how much God loves us - and that He loved us before the Fall because He had us in His heart before the creation of the world...

But did Christ's sacrifice restore us to some original state of being the likeness of God or did Christ's sacrifice cover our sins and bring us into a new relationship? Maybe they are the same thing but I get so confused because there are a lot of weird ideas out there - especially the new Age ideas that say we were all made in God's image and we just have to remember who we are.

Will we celebrate the birth of Christ in Heaven?

I think we will celebrate the birth of Christ in Heaven for all eternity. How could we not celebrate His incarnation? Certainly we will celebrate—though celebrate doesn't seem quite the right word—the triumph of the resurrection of Christ.

What should we expect if we want to be Christlike? (audio)

Randy Alcorn addresses the need for an expectation of suffering in the life of a believer who is to grow in Christ-likeness.

Jesus, Venus, and the Morning Star

But the name Morningstar is not tainted—it is Satan who is tainted.

I really struggle with the fact that God knew and planned for everything that was going to happen. How can I reconcile this with our ability to choose?

I really struggle with the fact the even before God created Adam and Eve, HE KNEW exactly what the outcome would be. Didn’t HE? He knew that they would fall, He knew that He would throw them out and allow all mankind following to be “sinners.” He knew that He would manifest Himself in the Physical being of Christ and He knew He would go to the cross. He set it up that way. It is all His perfect plan, so He had to have set it up or that would mean that somewhere along the line He goofed ...

Could Jesus have failed in His mission to redeem us?

Question from a reader:

I read the following from Paul Crouch of TBN, and wanted to get your opinion of it:

“A lot can happen in six hours. But not just any six hours. These six hours were the most unique and critical ones in the history of the world and, in fact, the universe. The fate of the very Godhead was at stake. ‘Heresy,’ someone says? Well, let’s ask the question: Could Jesus have failed in His mission?

“If your answer is ‘no,’ then the whole mission is a fraud. The possibility of failure had to be there ...

Sinlessness of Christ

If Jesus truly had no sin nature, how could he have suffered the temptations that nature carries?

Why do you seldom hear about Christ’s ascension?

It’s true that the ascension is a neglected doctrine. It was considered more important to earlier generations of Christians than it is today.
One remarkable thing about the ascension is that it affirms Christ’s physical body went into Heaven following his resurrection. This is what the creeds call his “self-same body,” stating that likewise our self-same bodies will be restored in our resurrection.

Could you explain the name “Jesus”?

Jesus is not a pure Greek name, as there is no "J" in Greek. Yashua's Greek name begins with an iota. The name is transliterated IESOUS and sounds like ee-ay-soos.
