Is America More Prolife Than We’ve Been Led to Believe?

American FlagIf Roe v. Wade is reversed by the Supreme Court, abortion will still be widely available in America, since many states will legalize it immediately. However, states will at least have the freedom to choose, which they have not had since 1973. With all the talk about the possible dismantling of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court, pro abortion advocates everywhere are crying, “The anti abortion beliefs of the minority shouldn’t be imposed on the majority of Americans.” But what do Americans really believe about abortion? We know the media is dominantly pro abortion, but what about average citizens?

A Child’s Love Opens Jane Roe’s Heart

baby prayingThe first time 7-year-old Emily Bausch met Norma McCorvey, she had no idea she had come face to face with an icon of the pro-abortion movement—”Jane Roe” of Roe v. Wade. To Emily, “Miss Norma” was just another person who needed Jesus.

“I wanted Miss Norma to become a Christian so she wouldn’t go to hell,” Emily told Citizen.

Emily’s mother, Ronda Mackey, is the office manager for Operation Rescue’s (OR) national headquarters in Dallas. Mackey takes daughters Emily and Chelsey, 4, to the office with her.

Choosing and Defending Life: a Prolife Bible Study Lesson for Group Discussion

This is a small group lesson I wrote for Good Shepherd Community Church Growth Groups. It was designed for use in groups following my message on abortion in the January 18-19, 1997 services. Pastors (or anyone else) are welcome to make use of it. — Randy Alcorn

A Sanctity of Life Message

The following are my message notes from the Good Shepherd Community Church services of January 18 and 19, 1997. Pastors and all others communicating on this subject are welcome to use this material.

What “Pro-Life” Means

  • To be pro-life is to recognize the inherent dignity and value of every individual human life.
  • To be pro-life is to acknowledge that all of us are created equal and endowed by our Creator with the unalienable right to life and that governments are instituted to secure that right, as stated in our beloved Declaration of Independence.
  • To be pro-life is to understand that abortion is the direct and deliberate killing of a baby prior to birth, an act that can never be justified. It is to know that medical procedures necessary to save a mother’s life, that cause ...

Early Church Teachings on Abortion

Compiled by Randy Alcorn

“You shall not kill an unborn child or murder a newborn infant.” — Didache

“You shall love your neighbor more than your own life. You shall not slay the child by abortion.” — Barnabas [c. 70-138], Epistles

“For us [Christians], murder is once and for all forbidden; so even the child in womb, while yet the Mother's blood is still being drawn on to form the human being, it is not lawful for us to destroy. To forbid birth is only quicker murder...He is a man, who is to be a man; the fruit is always present in the seed.” — Tertullian, 197, Apologeticus

A Life Given . . .

On the Slave Coast of West Africa in 1880, a land governed by witchcraft and superstition and where human life was cheap, torture by poisoning and boiling oil was the order of the day. Twins, believed to be children of the devil, were abandoned to die, and the mothers banished. But into that suffering came a woman who had been afraid to cross the street alone, who once refused to cross a field because there was a cow in it, who was terrified of crowds and public speaking.
