Is Revelation 4, where it talks about the throne room, referring to the intermediate (present) Heaven or the New Heaven?

It is talking about the present Heaven, apparently, since the New Earth comes on the scene after the final judgment, and Revelation isn’t about the New Earth until Revelation 21-22. However, some aspects of the present Heaven may be shared by the future post-resurrection Heaven.

Is the New Heaven already in place to be seen or is it in process?

Hebrews 12 speaks of the Heavenly City as apparently already existing in the present Heaven, but we don't know exactly how that works...

Is the Present Heaven Part of Our Universe?

We should not assume that the Bible describes Heaven in physical ways merely to accommodate us. It is fully possible that the present Heaven is a physical realm.

How do we know when Scripture is referring to the intermediate Heaven or the New Heaven and Earth?

HeavenWe know by the context. Sometimes it's obvious, e.g. it says New Earth or it is happening now, which means the present or intermediate Heaven. Sometimes it's harder to tell.

For more information on the subject of Heaven, see Randy Alcorns book Heaven.

How can we be with Jesus in an “intermediate” Heaven when He is with God in Heaven at His right hand?

When we die we go to be with Christ (II Cor. 5:8) which is wonderful. But we are still incomplete, in a pre-resurrected state, anticipating Christs return to earth, and our resurrections. The place well live forever will be where God comes down to dwell with us, on the New Earth (Revelation 21:1-3).

Intermediate State in Heaven

The reason I don’t address activities about the intermediate state is because there are not a lot of details given to it.

What will our bodies be like in the present, intermediate Heaven?

Unlike God and the angels, who are in essence spirits (John 4:24; Hebrews 1:14), human beings are by nature both spiritual and physical (Genesis 2:7).

Why don’t you say much about what our lives will be like in the present Heaven in your book Heaven?

Why don’t you say much about what our lives will be like in the Intermediate Heaven in your book Heaven? If there are very few activities, then the common fear of people is that we will be bored with repetitious praying and praising.

The reason I don’t address activities about the intermediate state is because there are not a lot of details given to it.

Are we instantly with the Lord when we die?

Jesus told the dying thief on the cross, "Today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43). The apostle Paul said that to die was to be with Christ (Philippians 1:23), and to be absent from the body was to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8).
