Resources: prolife/prochoice debate

Endorsements and Book Reviews of Why Prolife?

WhyProlife“Why ProLife? is an invaluable resource for anyone trying to help a friend or family member understand the pro-life point of view. In clear, compelling language, Randy Alcorn lays out the case for life, appealing powerfully to both the reason and the emotions.”

Why don’t people believe the pill is abortive?

Perhaps your doctor is uninformed and hasn’t read information on the possible abortifacient aspect of the pill. Pastors have many demands on their time and it’s difficult for them to stay abreast of a variety of important issues. If that is the case I would suggest giving him a copy of Does the Birth Control Pill Cause Abortions? or a pdf version of the booklet found here.

Why do you think prolife physicians who prescribe oral contraceptives have vested interest in doing so?

In my opinion it would be unwise to not recognize that everyone, including you and me, has vested interests. It’s just part of being human. Do we have vested interests in who we are voting for and why, where we live, what we do, who we hang out with and what we believe? Of course we do.

For instance, someone who believes all birth control is wrong will have vested interests in believing the pill causes abortions. Why? Because that will be another reason they can claim the pill is bad.

And someone who has used or prescribed the pill will naturally have strong vested interests in believing it does not cause abortions. Why? Because if you’re prolife, the last thing you want to believe is that your actions and advice may have resulted in the deaths of children.

God Writes Our Job Description

What is it like to be a designated “abortion person” in your church and community? Well, for me, it’s a little like eating the old “jaw breaker” candy. It’s good and it’s hard.

Aren’t people with religious convictions who want to end abortion violating the separation of church and state?

If we used the same logic of separation of church and state, we would not have laws against killing adults either, since the Bible says "Thou shalt not murder."

Do we have the right to choose what we do with our bodies?

Pro-choice advocates argue, “Every woman has the right to choose what she does with her own body.” Ironically, the choice of abortion assures that 650,000 females each year don’t have the right to choose what they do with their bodies. (That number is half of aborted children, the other half being males.) A female killed by abortion no longer has a life, a choice, or a body to exercise control over.

Denying the Holocaust

Note from Randy: I’m printing this disturbing letter I recently received in the hopes that its implicit anti-Semitism and denial and distortion of reality will serve as a wake-up call to morally conservative Christians who are tempted to look the other way from racism and denial of racial atrocities. The writer of the letter makes some good points about Christians being persecuted throughout history, and with that I certainly agree. However, to deny the slaughter of Jews in Europe during WWII is to edit the realities of history. Jesus said Satan is a liar and a murderer. If my involvement in the abortion issue has taught me anything, it’s that when murder happens on a large scale, it is always accompanied by lies to cover that murder.

Abortion is About God

Abortion is about God. To leave God out of the picture of abortion is to trivialize it. All things are trivial without God.
