My friend is questioning the reason and need to speak “in tongues.”

worshipThe Biblical accounts I have read are of those doing this was at Pentecost, when the Lord distributed (gifted) the Christians with His voice to enable the listeners from different languages to hear in their own language—not gibberish. It was an outpouring to spread the word and testify to Jesus. My friend is questioning the reason and need to speak “in tongues” while praying, etc. I don’t doubt that our Father could allow this to happen, but I just don’t see biblical evidence that God requires His children to “learn a prayer language.” I am certain God ...

How good it is to thank the Lord: Why Scripture commands us to sing

musical notesEnjoying good music makes us smile. It’s part of what makes us human. And one recent TV show drives the point home in an unexpected and astounding way.

At BreakPoint’s blog, The Point, we had a lively debate over church music—especially the now-common practice of bands performing during Sunday worship.

Much of the debate focused on contemporary music versus traditional hymns. But one of our bloggers invited readers to consider another question: Does God intend us to merely listen to music—or to sing ourselves?

Theologian T. M. Moore answers this question in an article he wrote ...

How will we worship God in Heaven?

Worship involves more than singing and prayer. We’re commanded, “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). We know that God expects us to do many different things on Earth, such as work, rest, and spend time with our families. So if we are to be joyful, pray, and give thanks all the time, we must worship God even while doing other things. Same deal in Heaven.

What Does the Bible Say About Heaven?

Despite my best attempts to be careful with Scripture, my understanding is far from complete and is without doubt incorrect in some areas. But if the reader diligently investigates the Scripture passages referred to in this summary, he may discover to his surprise (and either to his delight or discomfort) that some of his own notions and assumptions about heaven are in fact not biblical. In the process, he will gain a far greater understanding of this vital subject.

A. W. Tozer: Worship

worshippingSeven Days a Week

But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him. (Habakkuk 2:20)

So I’ve got to tell you that if you do not worship God seven days a week, you do not worship Him on one day a week. There is no such thing known in heaven as Sunday worship unless it is accompanied by Monday worship and Tuesday worship and so on....

We come into God’s house and say, “The Lord is in His holy temple, let us all kneel before Him.” Very nice. I think ...

Enjoying God and Enjoying Heaven: Why They are Inseparable?

What is the essence of heaven?...[It is the] beatific vision, love, and enjoyment of the triune God. For the three divine persons have an infinitely perfect vision and love and enjoyment of the divine essence and of one another. And in this infinite knowing, loving and enjoying lies the very life of the triune God, the very essence of their endless and infinite happiness. If the blessed are to be endlessly and supremely happy, then, they must share in the very life of the triune God, in the divine life that makes them endlessly and infinitely happy. — E. J ...
