Our birthright does not include pain-free living. Only those who understand that this world languishes under a curse will marvel at its beauties despite that curse. C. S. Lewis’s final article, published after his death, carried the title “We Have No Right to Happiness.” Believing that we do have such a right sets us up for bitterness.
I greatly appreciate the ministry of the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF), located in Philadelphia. Their mission is to “Restore Christ to Counseling and Counseling to the Church.” Besides offering counseling services in their home office, they provide on-site training and distance education for leaders, pastors, counselors, and people with a heart for discipleship.
I received the following comment about my blog on Haiti and Pat Robertson's comments: I am no fan of Pat Robertson, but I have listened to the clip where he talks of Haiti over and over and I have never heard him even ONE TIME say that God punished or judged Haiti. What Robertson said was that Haiti has been cursed since making a pact with the devil. The difference between those two statements are night and day. You have gone on hearsay to condemn a fellow brother in Christ, and that sickens me. You have misrepresented the facts, either through carelessness or through intent. Either way, you owe an apology to Pat Robertson.
The most quoted verse these days is not "For God so loved the world," but "Judge not." Unfortunately, we often fail to understand what this means.
This weekend at my home church, Good Shepherd Community, three good friends and I brought a group message from Romans 14. As you can see, we were having a good time. And hopefully we helped open up the passage. Different people bring different insights to a passage, and this passage is about differentness.
Next week, after New Year’s day, I hope to post some 2007 pictures. Meanwhile, people have been remarking to me offline that the comments on my blogs have become a battle zone. It seems I’ve offended people, for reasons sometimes apparent, sometimes not.
