A Modern-Day Saul Conversion: Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas
A few months ago I read an Associated Press article that told the story of the spiritual conversion and newfound devotion to God and family of a Hollywood screenwriter, famous for his dark and sinister plots in movies such as Basic Instinct, Jagged Edge, Betrayed, Sliver and Showgirls.Diagnosed with throat cancer, Joe Eszterhas had 80 percent of his larynx removed, a tracheotomy tube put in his throat, and was told he must quit drinking and smoking immediately.
At age 56, after a lifetime of wild living, Mr. Eszterhas knew it would be a struggle to change his ways.

Now, the man in the picture is not a Christmas shepherd, but Joel Stein, a prominent columnist for The Los Angeles Times. He’s written features for Time magazine, and has impressive journalistic credentials. He says this of himself on the front page of his website: “I’m the guy who loves porn and hates America.” He’s known for his column where he said he not only opposes the war in Iraq, he opposes U.S. troops. Clearly he’s a man who says what he thinks.
