Biola University: a Place for Students to Nurture Their Faith

BiolaEarlier this year, I spent a wonderful and exhausting four days at Biola University. I was certainly familiar with Biola by reputation, but my experience there exceeded expectations.  What a pleasure it was to be in a place where God’s Word is actually believed and the cutting edge thing to do is not to depart from Scripture, but to be about Jesus and to start with the authority of His Word.

The Contraception Controversy Is about More than “Just Contraception”

Chuck ColsonI have a lot of respect for Chuck Colson, who is in the hospital with a serious condition, in need of our prayers. I appreciate his involvement in helping the Christian community develop a godly worldview by keeping us informed about timely issues facing our nation.

The Hunger Games and a Hunger for the Real Life

The Hunger GamesI’ve received notes from readers asking about my take on The Hunger Games movie and books. I haven’t personally read the books or watched the movie, but I’m sharing some thoughts from Julia Stager, graduate student in theology and support staff here at Eternal Perspective Ministries.

“Monumental” Movie Tells an Important Story

MonumentalWhile visiting friends in Texas last week, Nanci and I saw Kirk Cameron’s documentary Monumental. We found it interesting, inspiring, and very well done. It’s very engaging, and tells an important story.

Dan Franklin on the Growing Consistency of the Pro-Choice Position

ConsistencyRecently my son-in-law Dan Franklin, married to my daughter Karina, wrote a very insightful article on his Facebook page. Dan is the teaching pastor at Life Bible Fellowship in Upland, California. Dan takes a fresh slant on new developments in the abortion debate.

Are we to blame for people’s poverty?

Neither God’s Word nor an accurate understanding of economics supports the notion that the prosperous are automatically responsible for making others poor. What Scripture does say is that even when we’re not at fault, we are responsible to help the poor. “If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord—and he will repay you!” (Proverbs 19:17 NLT).

Is religion bad?

Question from a reader:

I am an atheist and I accept all regardless of background, religion, culture, sexuality, etc. If you truly love someone then these things should not matter. I have been free from religion for 18 years now. I only hope more people see the truth and get out of the cult of religion so that they are able to live their lives how they want.

A Matter of Conscience

PenI’m writing today about a very serious development that threatens religious freedom in our country. I am not one to overreact to such things, but this particular case may have far-reaching implications.

Tim Keller Comments on New York’s Plan to Ban Churches from Schools

New York CityPastor Tim Keller, of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, has expressed his profound disappointment in the recent decision of NYC to no longer allow 68 churches to rent public schools. This is a terrible precedent, and it is based on a bizarre notion about worship services “consecrating the buildings they are in and turning them into churches.”
