Why Doesn’t Randy Alcorn Use Some of the Royalties from His Books to Offset EPM Expenses?

Since the inception of Eternal Perspective Ministries in 1990, EPM has given over nine million dollars in book royalties to ministries around the world. 100% of the royalties from Randy Alcorn's books go to EPM, which in turn gives them away for ministry purposes: 90% to other worthy Christian organizations and 10% to EPM to help offset the costs related to the writing/researching/editing of the books, and to help facilitate the giving away of our books to people all over the world. For instance, in 2023, the royalty income to EPM was $260,739 and the designated giving to EPM for specific ministries was $155,771.

Since the royalties received are way more than the operating budget of EPM, some people ask why we don’t use some of the royalties to fund EPM. Randy believes God has directed him to give 100% of the book royalties to other worthy Christian ministries, including missions, feeding the hungry, prolife and many others. God has blessed the sale of his books, and he believes it is partly because the royalties are all given to the Lord. He also believes that EPM benefits from having contributors to our general fund because of the partnership through prayer and accountability. If we used the royalties to fund our ministry we would never have to rely on anyone else, and those benefiting from that portion of the royalties wouldn’t receive help.

As long as God continues to lead this way, the plan is to continue giving away all the royalties, then trusting Him to provide for this ministry.
