In writing Deception, how did you hope to connect with readers who are non-believers?

The main character, Ollie Chandler, is an unbeliever. He blames a God he’s not sure exists for the loss of his wife to cancer; he’s haunted by the death of another loved one; and he’s alienated from his grown daughters.

Of the books you have written, which is your favorite? (video)

In this video, Randy shares some thoughts about the books he's written.

Randy Alcorn: Deadline, Dominion, Deception

Over the last two weekends (and trailing into the wee hours of this morning!), Jenni and I listened to three more outstanding audio books by Randy Alcorn: Deadline, Dominion, and Deception. They’re like modern Sherlock Holmes novels that deal in an edifying way with issues like abortion, racism, and faith and challenge readers to live in light of eternity.

Have you ever considered writing a book from the perspective of Manny?

Deadline, Dominion & DeceptionI really enjoyed reading your Deadline/Dominion/Deception series. Have you ever considered writing another book from the perspective of Manny?

A Teaser for Randy’s murder mystery, Deception (video)

Homicide detective Ollie Chandler has seen it all. But when he’s called to investigate the murder of a Portland State University professor, he finds himself going places he’s never gone before.

Deception Question and Answer

Deception had been on my mind, off and on the back burner, for ten years.

Readers’ Responses to Deception

DeceptionI just finished reading Deception. I enjoyed the mystery and humor so much that I read a passage aloud to my husband, and then had to hurry and finish the book so he could read it. The most moving parts to me were the commentaries “from heaven” made toward the goings-on of Earth. Coming up this April 13th is the first anniversary of the passing of my 54-year-old mother into her new address—Heaven. To quote Ollie: “…we couldn’t own her any more than you can own…a sunset…when they’re gone, instead of being mad, maybe you should just be grateful they were there for you in the first place.” Thanks for the fun and touching read during a challenging time. — C. Scandal of Evangelical Dishonesty

I am painfully aware that the subjects I address in this article are uncomfortable and controversial.

Deception: Will there be a sequel?

So, depending on the response to Deception (because I’ll find out whether readers like Ollie), Lord willing, there may well be one or more other Ollie stories to come.

Do you plan to have a follow up story about Ollie Chandler from Deception?

DeceptionI hope to, eventually. If I do, Ollie will be the first main character I’ve ever used in more than one novel. I’ve always known it would be easier to reuse the main character in that role, because I wouldn’t have to start over with a new one, or take the additional time to get into the head of a minor character from an earlier novel, as I’ve done a few times.
