Resources: nature of god

You state that never once has God renounced His claim on what He had made, however, Genesis 6: 5-7 states that God was sorry for having made man.

In your Heaven book you state (page 88) that never once has God renounced His claim on what He had made. However, according to Genesis 6: 5-7, it does state that because of man’s great wickedness and evilness of heart that God was sorry for having made man and as a result of His grief, He decided to destroy His creation—man along with the animals, birds, and creeping things. Can you help me clarify this?

Is God Safe?

roaring lion

God is good. But until we understand the truth that He is not safe, that He is not under our control, until we come to grips with the truth of His uncompromising holiness, we will never begin to grasp His amazing grace.

God is not a genie, under our control. He is the master. When we fancy ourselves masters, it can be intimidating to agree to being a servant. Christ is in charge of the universe whether or not we recognize Him—but when we do, we honor Him by submitting to His lordship.

Is it possible to really hear God speak?

We are not always great at talking to God, at least I’m not, but I think we are even worse at listening to God. Of course, if we think we can’t hear God’s voice, at least in the figurative sense, why would we listen?

Is “unconditional love” a moral contradiction?

Many people and many pastors and Christians are using this term these days to attempt to describe God’s love for us. It seems God’s love must operate within a moral framework. God cannot love evil. So then how could His love ever be unconditional? What would compel us to repent if His love for us was unconditional? His love is the greatest of all things, it is unfailing, but unconditional?

You raise some good points concerning a perhaps too casual use of the term “unconditional.” Typically a term like this is well-defined initially within a specific context, but ...

Into the Depths of God

turtleNatural vastness inspires, but it rarely results in an intimate togetherness with God. The rapture we feel standing before the Grand Canyon is more likely to erupt in a shout than in a conversation. The soaring galaxies are more prone to cause us to take our eyes from heaven and ask, “Father, are you there?” The best answers never come from beyond us. Why? Because God best declares himself from within us.

God becomes visible to those who look for him in the right place. Therefore, no eye—no literal eye—can see him! No ear can hear him! No ...

If God Is Good: Introduction and Chapter 2

To Those Who Are Hurting and Confused

I came to know my friend Jim Harrell after he read my book Heaven. We talked on the phone, exchanged e-mails, and quickly connected at a heart level. Jim, a successful businessman, strong and athletic for most of his life, told me he really looked forward to reading If God Is Good. He asked me for the first draft, which I happily sent him.

How will millions of resurrected believers have access to Jesus?

Question from a reader:

On page 174 of Heaven you talk of the thrill of seeing Jesus in Heaven. You say, “Being with him. Gazing at him. Talking with him. Worshiping him. Embracing him. Eating with him. Walking with him. Laughing with him.” But how will millions of resurrected believers be able to do this? Do we take turns?

How Will We Relate to God in Heaven?

Think about the person you would most want to spend time with. Who would that person be? Your favorite singer, author, or athlete? Your best friend who moved away? A family member who’s already died?

Many Christians would say they’d want to spend time with Jesus. They’d want to see the Savior who created them, died for them, and made their life in Heaven possible—the one who loves them more than anyone else.
