What's Randy Alcorn Like?

Randy Alcorn

I often tell people that Randy lives what he writes. It’s a privilege to work for a man with such integrity, someone you can fully trust. He’s an influencer and encourager, always pointing others toward Christ and His Word. And no matter how much demand there is on his time, he makes his family and closest friends top priority.

He has a great sense of humor which makes him a lot of fun to work with. And he’s good at writing “roasts” on people he loves. Randy is a serious student of God’s Word. I’ve never seen anyone’s Bible marked up as much as his. In fact, it becomes so marked up he eventually has to use a different one! He’s a thorough researcher, and you can trust what he writes. That’s one reason so many people look to him for advice and wisdom on any number of subjects. (In fact, I say his middle name is “thorough” because that’s how he approaches everything.) I have no doubt in my mind that when he stands before his Creator he will hear the words we all long for: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

By the Way...

Randy did not grow up in a Christian home. His father supplied taverns with cigarettes, pinball machines, and pool tables. Randy would travel with him, and it was where he first experienced the feeling of family, openness, and acceptance. He came to faith in Christ as a sophomore in high school and led his mother to the Lord shortly thereafter. His father came to Christ at 85 years of age.

Randy is a family man. He met his wife, Nanci, as a freshman in high school and dated her all through college. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on May 31, 2000. He is devoted to his wife, two daughters and their husbands, and five grandsons—who are his greatest joys in life.

Randy loves casual! His office is attached to the back of the Alcorns’ garage, so he comes and goes between office and home. Many times you’ll see him in slippers and most often in jeans and a t-shirt.

Did You Know?

Randy loves astronomy, and for many years owned a telescope. When he got married he sold his telescope for $1,000 and purchased two vehicles, one for himself and one for his wife. These are the only two cars he has ever purchased for himself. Any other vehicle he has owned has been given to him as a donation for the work of Eternal Perspective Ministries.
