Does Revelation 3:5 Suggest That a Name Can Be Removed from the Book of Life?

Question from a Reader:

In Revelation 3:5 Jesus says, “The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life.” Doesn’t that clearly suggest that it is in fact possible to be blotted out of the book of life? In other words, that a saved person can become unsaved if they fail to “conquer,” that is, to live a victorious Christian life?

Answer from Randy Alcorn:

This is a great question. It’s also one of those instances when someone else has addressed this question so biblically that I totally agree with them and have very little to add. So I will defer to this this nine-minute answer from John Piper, who addresses each of the biblical passages, including Revelation 3:5, that refer to the book of life.
