Why Do All of the Angels in Your Graphic Novel, Eternity, Have Wings?

Question from a reader:

In another article you mentioned that in Scripture some angels have wings and some may not. Why do all of the angels in your graphic novel, Eternity, have wings?

Answer from Randy Alcorn:

In my graphic novel, angels and humans often appear in the same photo. If they have wings, they can be easily distinguished from people. If they don’t have wings, they will appear to readers as large muscular men, and then suddenly when they fly, as…flying men on steroids? This will jar some readers completely out of the story.

So, it’s simply a judgment call. And since it would be confusing for readers for angels not to have wings, I’ve chosen to display them as such. I think it’s the right call, doing justice to Scripture’s depiction of some angels with wings. Since speculation is required either way, to me it makes sense to speculate in the way that doesn’t totally confuse the reader.
