I will never forget spending an afternoon in September 2001 with Walter Jespersen, at the home of Doug and Margaret Nichols. Walter, Margaret’s father, was perhaps 85 then, and now is 100 years old.

A few months ago, Doug Nichols, Founder of ACTION International, sent out these statistics on the growth of the church in many places.

Perhaps my favorite is one that flies under the radar because they devote so little to fundraising, and focus all on hands-on ministry: Action International, based in the Seattle area.

Being a hero is something entirely different than being a celebrity. Fame is one thing. Virtue is another. 

As a brand new Christian in 1970, I read every Christian book I could get my hands on. Several, including Born Crucified, were by L. E. Maxwell, who my friend Doug Nichols speaks so fondly of in this reflection. I asked Doug if I could use it in my blog.

May I give a word of advice and also plead with those of you in churches and groups who are visiting the Philippines and other parts of the world? Please be careful how you dress

I have the highest regard for the cause of world missions, and the greatest respect for Action International, one of many fine missions groups. While Doug Nichols is making this request, these ten qualities express what many other missions are looking for, too.
