Biblical illiteracy among Christians is arguably at an all time high, with chilling implications that can hardly be overstated. I know that various things in the church will inevitably change, such as songs and hymns taking on new forms, and that's fine. What isn't fine is for God's people to neglect His Word.

Some people really enjoy study Bibles. I've thought they were okay, but have never gotten into them. Some time before it was published last October, I was asked to look over the ESV Study Bible, Hardcover, with the possibility of endorsing it.
On Manna and Personal Sabbaths

The scattering of manna in the wilderness happened 6 days a week. On the 7th, just as in creation, God rested and so did the Israelites—at least the obedient ones. Those who went out to gather manna on the Sabbath disappointed themselves and God.
Escaping the Rut

Growing up, I loved family fun nights. Occasionally, the four of us played a game, watched a movie, or went out together in lieu of the normal evening at home. These nights had a way of bringing us closer by experiencing something different together. We discovered more about why we loved each other. Stories came up that might not have over just a weekday dinner table.

We should come to God’s Word with “great eagerness.” If we’re more eager to watch a sitcom or the evening news than to read God’s Word, inevitably our worldview will be more influenced by sitcoms and the evening news than by God.
