Letter to High School Students

A letter from Randy to students who attended a Model Republican Convention at the Memorial Coliseum several years ago.

Dear high school friend,

I’m writing to each of you who requested a copy of my book ProLife Answers to ProChoice Arguments a week and a half ago at the Model Republican convention at the Memorial Coliseum. When I spoke on the subject of abortion I brought 225 copies of the book. They were gone immediately and another 170 students, including you, wrote down your addresses so we could send you one. I hope you enjoy it.

I ask you to read this carefully researched book with an open mind. If you do, I think you’ll find it enlightening and helpful. It deals with what the most compelling moral issue of our day, just as slavery was in the last century. Of course, it goes against the grain of the pervasive politically correct slogans of our times. Truth often does. (If you or a friend have had an abortion, please read Finding Forgiveness after an Abortion, pages 231-236.)

I enjoyed talking with many of you after I spoke, both those who agreed and those who disagreed. As important as the issue of abortion is, though, there is something even more important. That’s why I’ve also enclosed the booklet called “Steps to Peace with God.” I hope you will read it and carefully consider what it says.

I was not raised in a religious home, and didn’t attend church as a child. When I was in high school I was searching for truth, longing to know what the universe was about, wishing my life could count for something. To my surprise, I found the deepest answers to the longing of my soul. I found them in Jesus Christ, who said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by Me.”

In a day when people have come to believe there are no absolute truths, that there is no objective standard for truth, and therefore no foundations for morality or justice, I encourage you to consider the claims of Jesus Christ. He is my Lord and Savior. He’s also my best friend. Since I placed my faith in him when I was in high school, he has never let me down. I look forward every day to spending eternity with him in heaven after I die. I pray you too will find in Jesus Christ the answers you seek.

If you would like to know of a good Christian church in your area, or if I can ever be of help to you in any way, feel free to contact me. I wish you the very best.

Sincerely,

Randy Alcorn (503-668-5200)
