What Advice Do You Have on Advance Healthcare Directives?

Question from a reader:

I’m faced with filling out a healthcare directive, and I’m conflicted with what the Christian choice would be as to whether or not to direct a loved one to “pull the plug” if I were in a coma or other vegetative state. I am saved, and my greatest hope is to meet Jesus in Heaven when I pass away. I want to make sure I never do anything that would jeopardize this or put a loved one in a position to make them feel uncomfortable.

Answer from Eternal Perspective Ministries:

Your concern for others is commendable. You can be at peace knowing that once you have placed your faith in Jesus and His work on the cross and in resurrection on your behalf, your actions cannot “jeopardize” His covenant with you. Your salvation is not in your hands, it’s in His.

Randy has written on physician assisted suicide, but not on advance directives. Here are some resources from another website we recommend:

This is a podcast with a Christian doctor on end-of-life issues.

Here is a free course from The Gospel Coalition.

On that course page, they list several more resources, including this article about advance directives from the same doctor who did the podcast linked to above.
