In this clip, Randy addresses the conflicts that COVID has created in our churches. He shares some thoughts from his wife Nanci, and what she has learned through her journey with cancer.

Nanci read the following to me from her journal a few days ago, and I asked her if we could use it as a blog. As many of you know, she has been battling cancer for over three years now. We are grateful for everyone’s love and prayers, and are fully trusting God in this. 

I recently had the privilege of visiting the Joni and Friends headquarters in Agoura Hills, California. While I was there, I was asked to record a few episodes for their podcast, including one about the journey Nanci and I have been on since her diagnosis with colon cancer in early 2018.  We talked about our relationship, hope, and practical ways to encourage those who are facing similar challenges.

My wife Nanci was featured in a column Monday by Chuck Norris, our friend and brother in Christ. Chuck writes, “I know Nanci, and I know she's not happy with me placing this much focus on her, right Nanci?” He’s right. Both of us feel a bit awkward with the high praise for the two of us, but I’m nonetheless touched and grateful for Chuck sharing about Nanci’s cancer journey, and we deeply appreciate all the prayers on her behalf. 

Reminding yourself of God’s unchanging character and love and faithfulness is critical to being able to rise above the adversity of circumstances that seem to change like the weather.

It’s been a long time since I’ve mentioned my wife Nanci’s health issues, and her battle with cancer. I share about it now because some of you have health issues, and most of you have spouses, children, parents, other family and/or friends who are facing them and all kinds of other challenges. I hope this will encourage you and give you some perspective.

Last year John Piper wrote an article titled “No Maverick Cells in Me: My Deepest Hope During Cancer.” Nanci and I first read this while she was undergoing cancer treatments, and it really encouraged us. It’s an apt reminder for us again, as we are in another season of waiting and uncertainty related to Nanci’s latest test results.
