The biblical accounts link mankind so closely with the physical universe and link God’s celestial heavens so closely with the manifestation of His glory that I believe He intends for us to explore the new universe.

Randy uses the term universe to mean what we extrapolate from astronomical observation to be the place in space where we exist and that there could be other realms with their own space and time which may be separate or may intersect.

Just because we now have explanations and the ability to predict phenomena like eclipses, we somehow overlook many things, including that the only way eclipses work so perfectly is because of the same relative size due to the distance involved. 

A reader recently sent me a link on Facebook with some pictures that put earth in perspective in the universe. Below are a few of the images. Seeing this brings me back to gazing into the sky night after night as a boy. And how God used it, and my study of the wonders of the universe, to prepare my heart to meet Him.

At 2:30 a.m., on November 19, 2002, I stood on our deck gazing up at the night sky. Above me was the Leonid meteor shower, the finest display of celestial fireworks until the year 2096.

I’ve been “rereading” Mere Christianity, actually listening to it on audio. I first read it as a young Christian forty years ago. I’m amazed that this book seems to get even better with time.

I’ve had an interest in astronomy since getting my first telescope in fourth grade. My love for the wonders of the universe helped prepare me to hear the gospel and respond to Christ.
