I just finished reading Costi Hinn’s new book God, Greed, and the (Prosperity) Gospel: How Truth Overwhelms a Life Built on Lies, over a period of three days, including two late nights. I couldn’t put it down!

I mentioned Football Sunday in a blog a few weeks ago, but it's still not too late for your church to use some or all of the resources to make Super Bowl Sunday a day of outreach and spiritual growth. The video can also be used in any home watching the game. One great idea is to use it as a positive alternative to the halftime show!

I first heard Jackie Hill Perry at the Canvas Conference in Portland a few years ago, where we both spoke. Jackie writes like a word artist, which is exactly what she is. Gay Girl, Good God is poetry of sorts, at times with a cadence, and I was almost spellbound listening to it.

I read a lot of books, and Christopher Yuan’s Holy Sexuality and the Gospel: Sex, Desire, and Relationships Shaped by God’s Grand Story is on the shortlist of most important books I’ve read in the last decade.

I’ve written in the past about how highly Nanci and I recommend The Valley of Vision, the book of Puritan Prayers. It’s a truly amazing God-exalting, Christ-centered compilation of prayers from the Puritans, including a few who lived after the Puritan era but were Puritans in Heart, notably Charles Spurgeon.

Recently someone asked me, “When you have concerns about a book, and disagree with it, shouldn’t you talk directly to the author rather than posting about it on your blog?”

Recently quarterback Nick Foles' new book Believe It: My Journey of Success, Failure and Overcoming the Odds, was released. As of this Sunday it will debut at #5 on the New York Times Best Sellers list! With Josh Cooley’s able help, Nick has told his story in a unique and memorable way that can be enjoyed by avid football fans and not so avid ones.

One of the best things to come out of Portland, Oregon (where I live) in the last few years is The Bible Project, which is done by a couple of creative brothers here that know God and His Word. Nanci and I often watch one of their 5 to 10 minute videos at dinner, and our discussion takes off from there.

In the two-minute video in this blog, teacher and author Jen Wilkin answers the question, “Which book do you wish every Christian would read, and why?” 

Few Christian books have sold as well and been shared as widely as Sarah Young’s devotional Jesus Calling. Given the widespread influence of her books, which is only growing, it seemed time to address some concerns directly on my own blog.
