Questions from a Middle Schooler about Pro-Life and Pro-Choice Issues

Question from a reader:

Dear Eternal Perspective Ministries,

Hello there! I’m a middle school student. I have seen your website and thought it could provide some good information for my project about abortion. I have a few questions for you.

  1. What are some of your solutions to the abortion crisis?
  2. What ways are you trying to change the minds of pro-choice people?
  3. Is their scientific evidence to support the pro-life position?

Answer from Stephanie Anderson, EPM staff:

You ask some great questions for your project. I’ll provide some resources for you below each question.

1. What are some of your solutions to the abortion crisis?

See the conclusion (“How can I help save women and children from abortion?”) in Randy’s latest prolife book ProChoice or ProLife? which is available for free as a PDF.

Randy writes: “Years ago, a famine relief organization printed a poster with a photo of an emaciated woman and child that asked the question, ‘How do you feed a billion hungry people?’ I stared at that poster, which stopped me in my tracks. The very thought of such immense needs is defeating, and could cause us to think, It’s impossible, so we shouldn’t even try. But then I saw at the bottom of the poster a powerful four-word answer: ‘One at a time.’ That’s how we can make a difference when it comes to abortion—one life at a time.

He then suggests five ways that we can get involved and make a difference: educate yourself, bring a pro-life perspective, support pro-life organizations, intervene outside an abortion clinic, and pray.

2. What ways are you trying to change the minds of pro-choice people?

Years ago, Randy was involved with prolife rescues at abortion clinics. Now, his efforts involve speaking out on the behalf of unborn children through his blog and through interviews and sermons, and writing books to equip people to defend them. His 1992 book ProLife Answers to ProChoice Arguments was a surprise best-seller, and has been used, now in an updated form, to train prolifers for nearly thirty years. Our ministry also gives substantial funds from the book royalties to support the prolife cause.

Here’s a video and article you might find helpful: “Communicating the Prolife Message, and a 12-Year-Old Shows How It's Done” (https://www.epm.org/blog/2009/Feb/23/communicating-the-prolife-message-and-a-12-year-ol)

3. Is there scientific evidence to support the pro-life position?

Yes, there is much scientific evidence to support the pro-life position and the fact that life begins at conception.

The best thing I can encourage you to do is check out Randy’s latest prolife book ProChoice or ProLife? which is available for free.

I suggest starting with these chapters:

Pro-Choice Claim #1: “The embryo isn’t a baby—it’s just a product of conception and a potential life.”

Pro-Choice Claim #2: “Well, the fetus may be human, but it isn’t a person.”

Another great resource is https://abort73.com. At the top navigation is an option for “the case against abortion.” Each article has many references.
