In my book In Light of Eternity I tell several stories related to my mom’s death, the death of my closest friend, and my father’s death...and mind just sort of moved over to this arena of what really does happen on the other side of death.

As Nanci, Karina & Angela and I, and my brother Lance, were with him, while I was reading Scripture from Revelation 20-22, Dad went home to be with the Lord.

What awaits the believer after death? We all know the answer—heaven.

Therefore God will honor the work of his Son by raising your body from the dead, and you will use your body to glorify him forever and ever. That is why you have a body now. And that is why it will be raised imperishable.

I couldn’t sleep the night of January 4, 1993, so I turned on the coverage of the execution of Westley Allen Dodd. He was the man who tortured, raped and murdered three young boys in Vancouver, Washington, about twenty minutes from where I live.

The prospect of death has a way of getting our attention, of cutting to our very heart. Yet we also have a way of turning our eyes away from Death’s burning light to gaze again at the shadows of this world, stepping back away from death and ignoring the message it sends.
