Is It Wrong to Hope for Fulfillment of Specific Dreams in Heaven?

Question from a reader:

I have a question regarding being a ruler over cities. I was excited about it when I heard it but I’m not sure if I will be qualified. I prayed to Jesus Christ about how I want my cities to look and if there will be trucks, cars, transportation systems, and power plants. I feel guilty about it, though, wondering, am I’m being too worldly? Trucks, trains, cars, and tractors are some of my hobbies, and I love to talk to Jesus Christ about them.

Answer from Doreen Button, EPM staff:

I loved reading your letter. Your excitement about the new heavens and New Earth is contagious and exactly what Randy hopes he helps his readers anticipate.

Jesus is preparing the perfect place for us. And if tractors and power plants, trucks and cars, and anything else that moves itself or moves stuff or moves people would be perfect for you, I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be part of your domain. In fact, maybe you’ll be able to design transportation systems alongside Jesus and test out different ways to deliver “The glorious treasures of nations” that “will be brought into the city” (Revelation 21:26).

Jesus loves it when we talk to Him about His plans and how we want to be part of what He’s doing, whether that’s here and now or later on the New Earth. Please don’t let the enemy trap you into thinking that it’s bad for you to desire a position in God’s Kingdom serving Him in ways that honor Him.

Keep sharing your dreams with Jesus and allowing Him to use your struggles here to prepare you to be a compassionate and wise ruler wherever He chooses to put you.

God bless you as you seek Him first!
