If you were traveling through a country on foot or on a bicycle, what would your attitude be toward possessions? You wouldn’t hate them or think them evil—but you would choose them strategically. Unnecessary things would slow your journey or even force you to stop.

Some financial counselors put home mortgages in a different category from other debts. One reason is that the loan is secured by the house’s equity. A case can certainly be made for borrowing to buy a reasonably priced house instead of renting.

Debt spends money we don’t have. So isn’t our decision to go into debt proof that we believe we need more than God has given us?
