What, after all, is more universal to human experience than suffering? And what is more important than the perspective we bring to it?

I wrote this dialogue a few years ago for my book Deadline, but it was nonessential, so I removed it, and it's never been published until now. I hope some readers will find the interaction between these two men stimulating and useful.

Dear Randy: You may not remember me, but about 4 years ago you saw me reading a Bible in the Chicago airport on your way home from a conference.

On November 9, almost six years from the day Aucas slew his son with four other missionaries in Ecuador, T. E. McCully of Wheaton, IL, visited the Aucas in their own village. He wanted to personally visit the tribe who had confessed their guilt in slaying the missionaries—all of whom now confessed belief in Christ.

If you are trying to become published, stop looking for short cuts. Do not ask a published friend to introduce you to an editor, do not print your manuscript on pink paper, and do not send it to your favorite author in an e-mail. Simply write an irresistible story. Keep working at it until you find an editor who agrees.

Many religions, including Buddhism and Hinduism, picture the afterlife as vague and intangible. Christianity specifically refutes this notion. Biblical Christianity doesn’t give up on humanity or the earth.

Though worldview and theology can be distinguished from each other in secondary ways, in the primary sense, I think they are not only inseparable, but practically synonymous.
