Nanci and I leave today for 12 days in Oxford and Cambridge where I'm teaching at the Oxbridge C. S. Lewis conference. I teach two seminars, one at Oxford and one at Cambridge, that are two afternoons each, plus a plenary session at Cambridge.

I served on the board of the first crisis pregnancy center in the Pacific Northwest back in the 1980s, so the work that Pregnancy Resource Centers across the country (under the umbrella of the national organization, Care Net) are doing to save unborn babies is close to my heart.

When I wrote Deception, the spiritual themes are interwoven into the central plot, the murder mystery. Ollie’s recognition that everything is not as it appears applies not only to the murder, but to the larger issues of his life.

I like reading murder mysteries—particularly the Nero Wolfe books by Rex Stout. I love Sherlock Holmes. In fact, every chapter of Deception starts with a great quote from a Holmes story. It was fun matching those with the contents of particular chapters. Many people enjoy murder mysteries, so there’s potential for a wide audience.

The main character, Ollie Chandler, is an unbeliever. He blames a God he’s not sure exists for the loss of his wife to cancer; he’s haunted by the death of another loved one; and he’s alienated from his grown daughters.

I remember various secular media interviews where they couldn’t figure out how a murder mystery could have a spiritual theme! They would say things like wow, that was an interesting story, and….that other-worldly stuff was…well, it was different, wasn’t it?

Pregnancy rates do not prove that the pill does not prevent implantation.

Your son desperately needs your help now. He simply can't do this on his own. I highly recommend making an appointment with a Christian counselor immediately.

I never create any mental pictures that could tempt, as I have strong convictions against that.

I have been rereading C. S. Lewis’s God in the Dock, a collection of his essays. Actually, I’ve been listening to the audio, sent to me by the wonderful folks at christianaudio.com. I love it.
